Forms of Literature: Week Five—
The works do any excellent job of addressing individuality in correlation a fictional government, and in many cases, it presents a more dynamic view of the government concerning the restrictions placed on society and mainstream versions of history.
This notion is then transferred to the entirety of America and defines all peoples within it as “American,” while simultaneously discounting and discriminating against those who do not share similarities. They are simply an afterthought, with no culture, customs, beliefs of their own; they are there to be exploited and used, dead or objectified in the same sense. Economic terminology and ideology then replace any commitment to specific sections of humanity based on the idea that the “good of nation” is more important than right or wrong or ethics and morals for the majority, making both marginalized groups and the dominant inhuman.

Answer the following questions with one paragraph per question:
1) What tendencies in present-day American society is Vonnegut satirizing?
2) Is Diana Moon Glampers a flat or round character? Would you call Vonnegut’s characterization of her realistic? If not, why doesn’t it need to be?
3) From what point of view is the story told? Why is it more effective than if Harrison Bergeron had told his own story in first person?
Discussion Post Rules:
Make an academic argument. Do not summarize. Ask yourself what is the deeper meaning of the texts, and what can we learn from them within the scope of American Minority Studies? Support your answers with academic secondary sources. Use the LRC website (or other credible search engines) to locate sources and the Purdue OWL for MLA rules and formats for both quotes and Work Cited.
1. Content: Do not use quotation marks to add emphasis to words, i.e. ″front row seat.″ Also, avoid using clichés such as this. Always state the title of the text and author when beginning your post. Never assume the reader knows who or what you are discussing. When referring to a character always state their full name and then refer to them by last name thereafter.
2. MLA: For in-text citations use the author and page number only. If you are paraphrasing then I need to see an in-text citation showing the page you get the information from. The title should be in quotation marks and not italics.
Content:
 The initial post clearly and desсrіptively states the writer’s claim and objective.
 The overall subject matter and/or material presented is appropriate for a college-level reader.
 All ideas are developed and supported in manner that accomplishes the writer’s purpose throughout the entire post.
Structure:
 Initial posts and responses are clear, concise, and expresses the writer’s major claim and explains why the contention matters to the defined audience.
 Initial posts and responses are efficiently and effectively arranged.
 Initial posts and responses contain ample, quality information from respected and/or appropriate primary and secondary sources, examples, anecdotes, logical reasoning, etc. to support its point.
Style/Tone:
 Sentences are efficiently and effectively structured for clarity—syntax.
 Sentences use the most appropriate and exact words to express the writer’s thoughts—diction.
 Sentences are active.
 The writer’s words create and use a coherent and unified attitude and voice throughout the initial post and in responses.
 The writer’s words are unbiased, non-offensive, and wholly academic.
Editing:
 The writer has edited out errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
 The writer has followed standard MLA formatting conventions.
