Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart — Piano Concerto #23
Musical elements
In this project you will discuss how a piece of music by a “classical” composer from class seems to reflect the composer’s state of mind, and the culture and history of his or her time. This will be the THESIS of your paper. Support your thesis by discussing your response to technical elements of the piece, and by presenting information about the composer’s life and cultural context found through research.
Your presentation will be detailed and organized according to rules learned in class.
OPENING — rationale, thesis, topics — start your paper by telling us what you are going to write about, and then go for it!
BODY PARAGRAPHS (each one covering topic mentioned in opening, all topics working to prove thesis) — topic sentence, general sentences with detail sentences following each general sentence
CLOSING — anecdote, summary of ways you proved thesis, your own conclusions, take away.
Any source found by searching from the QCC Library Webpage will be acceptable. A resource I suggest is OXFORD MUSIC ONLINE. You will find it at the QCC library homepage.˃search by subject˃music˃finding articles. OXFORD MUSIC ONLINE will be found at the top. Scroll down to find resources for finding articles. ACADEMIC SEARCH COMPLETE is another excellent resource. Use the advanced search features and type in keywords pertaining to your project (Beethoven Symphony number 5, for example). The “finding books” link at the top of the library page will offer ways to find books pertaining to your topic.
